Don't bite me

What is the meanest animal in the world? Maybe some people will say, lion, anaconda, piranha. If Doctor Jane (Director of Prevention and Control of Vector Infectious and Zoonotic Diseases - Indonesia) will surely answer mosquitoes. Yes, the female Anopheles mosquito, which in its body contains plasmodium. Is that you cruel, even though you are small and it's not nice to hear your voice when you fly.

The animals that are no more than nostrils if said data from the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control caused 1,229 Indonesians to die in 2015 and the number of cases that occurred at that time was 126,575. In addition, the Indonesian Ministry of Health's Data and Information Center (Kemenkes) released data based on the 2015 world malaria report, stating that malaria has attacked 106 countries in the world.

Try to find data on how many people died because they were eaten by piranhas, by tigers, or wrapped in anacondas. It could be, but the numbers are not as terrible as the number of mosquito victims. "So, please don't bite me. We just have a win-win solution, you don't bite me and I don't beat you, "

But I will eradicate your nest

From the data above, it is very unfortunate that those who are infected with malaria should be able to do what they want, worship, go to school, work, dating together for several young people. But what can we do, the disease cannot be determined. But malaria can be prevented, Doctor Jane said try not to have water stagnant in our environment, because it can become a nest for Anopheles mosquito larvae.

If there is a puddle of water, just anclumin tilapia or betta fish, they will eat the mosquito eggs later. In addition, put a mosquito net before going to bed, it is more effective to use an insecticide-treated net. Mosquitoes stick, die.

The Ministry of Health has carried out a week of mass mosquito nets and monitoring their use. Nationally, the number of mosquito nets distributed throughout Indonesia from 2004 to 2017 was 27.6 million. In 2017 alone, a total of 3,984,224 bed nets were distributed in mass netting week in 166 regencies / cities and 20 provinces in Indonesia.

Apart from mosquito nets, the government is also making other efforts in the form of training for malaria personnel (doctors, nurses, analysts, cadres, surveillance officers, etomologists), and providing the anti-malaria drug dihydroartemisinin.

Thanks to that, malaria cases decrease every year, as evidenced by the decrease in the number of malaria endemic districts / cities. In 2017, of the total 514 districts / cities in Indonesia, 266 (52%) were malaria-free areas. 172 districts / cities (33%) are low endemic, 37 districts / cities (7%) are medium endemic, and 39 districts / cities (8%) are high endemic.

The government has a target that by 2030 all regions of Indonesia will succeed in eliminating malaria. Malaria elimination is an effort to stop local malaria transmission within a certain geographic area. In short, malaria is still there but not a problem, meaning that vigilance is still needed to prevent re-infection. Hopefully no one else gets bitten.
